Protecting the Unborn

I believe that life begins at conception, when the egg is fertilized and becomes an embryo. Abortion is one of the most immoral actions taking place in our country today. Tennessee law provides protections in statute to protect the life of the mother in cases such as ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, uterine membrane tears, and other medical situations where the baby is not viable.

My pro-life worldview is rooted in both my Christian faith and personal experience. When my wife and I found out we were pregnant with our son, there was a moment at just 5 weeks when we thought we had lost him. At that stage, Jackson was too small to be seen on the ultrasound, and the doctor told us to return the following week. When we went back, not only did we see him on the ultrasound, but at 6 weeks we heard his heartbeat for the first time. Despite being smaller than a thumbnail, that heartbeat reaffirmed for me that life begins at conception. The idea that unborn babies are merely a “clump of cells” is one of the greatest lies told to the American people. If you are unaware of how abortions are performed throughout various phases of pregnancy, I encourage you to watch the video below.
